On-Page Black Hat SEO Techniques That You Need to Avoid

When you say on-page black hat SEO, it refers to all techniques that are unethical or forbidden by the search engines because they are deceptive. Just like white hat SEO techniques, this can be employed by tweaking the contents or structures of your website. Here are some examples of unethical techniques that you may want to read and know if you need to change your SEO efforts.

  1. – these are texts that the human eye cannot see but are absolutely visible to the search engines. Why do people employ invisible texts in their pages?

People include invisible texts in their site so the search engines can find and read them in the hopes that they will be ranked higher for keywords found in the context. There are several ways of doing this:

  • The color of the text is the same as the background
  • The front is too small to be read or notice even
  • Place texts inside a block element that is set to invisible (with zero width and height)
  • Place texts at the extreme part of the page using CSS

Bad news is, search engines can now indentify invisible texts and they sanction the sites accordingly.

  1. This means the overuse of relevant or irrelevant keywords in your site-either visible or invisible, it doesn’t matter because it’s still keyword stuffing. There are several ways of doing this:
  • Stuffing alt and title attributes with keywords
  • In inframe /noframe tags of website pages that are employing iframes /frames
  • In a particular section of a website page that, although visible, is not much noticed.
  • Stuffing of keywords on the website’s content

Bad news is, search engine bots are becoming smarter and smarter.  In fact, as few as the paragraph with the image alt tag, if stuffed with keywords, can quickly and easily alarm the search engine bots that something is off with your website.

–this refers to an isolated page that exists with the sole purpose of getting a higher ranking in the search results. This page is bombarded with keywords (keyword stuffing) or contents acquired from another website that ranks high for the same keywords.

However, a doorway page may also contain contents that were originally created by the webmaster. But what makes a doorway page a doorway page is the fact that it is not intended for your visitors rather for ranking in the search results.  A doorway page can be implemented in the following ways:

  • Some websites use the index page as their doorway page.
  • The purchase of different keyword-containing domains to be indexed by the search engines separately.
  • Utilizing their sub-domains instead of purchasing several separate domains

The common practice of webmasters is this: They create a doorway page with invisible texts. The only thing that the visitors can see is an anchor text or an image that says “Click here”, “Click this” and the likes. Upon the arrival of the visitors on the doorway page and upon clicking on the anchor text, they are redirected to another website.

Other times, the webmasters set the Meta fresh. Thereby, upon arrival of the visitors, they are redirected to the site that webmasters want to present.

Bad news is, search engine bots can now clearly see through all sorts of invisible texts. Meta fresh, on the other hand, is much easier to sanction. To add insult to injury, search engines simply skip doorway pages and index pages that house your real contents.

–this is the process of presenting two separate contents to the search engine bots and to the visitors as well. This black hat technique relies on detecting the IP address or User-Agent http.

The there are two different versions of the page: one for the search engine crawlers and one for the human visitors. The server makes use of the IP address to identify who or what is visiting their site. For example, if a human visitor is accessing the site, the page intended for the human eye is presented. On the other hand, if it’s the search engine.

The page that is presented to the search engines are usually filled with keywords that may or may not be relevant to the page that is presented to the human visitors.

These are deceptive methods that turn the search engines off. So don’t expect that you won’t get caught because the search engine algorithms are getting more sophisticated by the minute. If you’re a serious digital marketer, you must utilize white hat SEO techniques which promotes longevity and increases your authority and credibility.
